The Kellogg-Zaher Sports complex off of Washington, in the Summlin area, is a park where you can do just about anything that you want. The park is another monument to urban planning in Las Vegas. They may pack the homes together rather tightly but the communities all seem to have an abundance of parks and facilities that provide our children with endless hours of enjoyment.

Soccer is big time in Las Vegas and you will find many fields of dreams.

I actually drove by the complex to take a few photos of the Dog Park. It was a quiet day; not too many of our furry friends were around. This is a photo of the dog park for larger dogs over 25 pounds.
The action was at the park for dogs 25 pounds and under; pretty laid back.

A great place to sniff around and be with your pals.

Just spending some quality time with your best friend ranks up there pretty high.

I’m continuing my recent theme on Summerlin Parks with an emphasis on photos. It’s always nice to have a view of the park to see if it matches what type of outing you may have in mind.

The Vistas Park is a 20-plus-acre facility featuring two lighted baseball fields, a concession stand, two lighted tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, group picnic pavilion (with a great barbeue area), children’s play area and restroom facilities.

I noticed that this park has a football field; this may be a first in Summerlin. A great place for pickup games and practicing you field goal expertise.

The Vistas Park is Summerlin’s 21st major community park of more than five acres. The Summerlin Community is home to more than 100 parks of various sizes.

“Since its inception, Summerlin has catered to families and outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate the community’s recreational amenities that encourage healthy, active lifestyles,” said Tom Warden, vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin.
“Top-notch facilities like The Vistas Park help to create the popular active lifestyle for which the community is known.”

I was out exploring the Arbors neighborhood in Summerlin and found a nice community recreation center that is run by the City of Las Vegas. The Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center is a public facility named Veterans Memorial in tribute to our Veterans.
They have a number of activities and classes available to the public. Most of their programs are youth oriented; you’ll find gymnastics, dance, martial arts and music classes.

The outdoor pool is a good place to cool down and meet new friends. They have swim classes available for everyone; 18 months to adult.
Daily Fees for use of the pool:
Ages 0-3 Free
Ages 4-17 $1
Ages 18-49 $2
Ages 50+ $1.50
Those are great prices and you can get an All Summer Pool Pass:
Individual $40
Adult 50+ $20
Family $60 (up to 8 members of the immediate family)

The center and pool are next door to Palo Verde High School. The address is 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive in Summerlin. The phone number is 702-229-1100. Here’s a link to all of the Las Vegas Parks and Facilities.

Howard Hughes Corporation really does a great job on their parks in Summerlin. This photo post follows my article on The Mesa Park. The Paseos Park is another fine example of a park that really works for the Summerlin Community. This one is made special by the water park that is the center of activity. This is a place where kids can cool down under the water sprays and enjoy some time with their parents and friends.

The 12.5 acre park is located in Summerlin’s The Paseos Village and offers a variety of activities to its more than 3,500 residents. Summerlin is home to more than 100 parks that range in size from less than one acre to nearly 70 acres, most of which are designed around a specific recreational theme such as soccer, baseball, tennis or trails.

A shaded children’s play area.

Sand volley ball court.

Lighted basketball courts with a pretty spectacular view, of course playing the game is the main attraction.

Just a great gathering place for family and friends!

I was out exploring Summerlin South and came across The Mesa Park. The park and the village are nestled right up against the Spring Mountain Range. The Mesa is the southern most village of the Howard Hughes Corporation. Bishop Gorman and the Holy Spirit Catholic Church are located just south of the community and park.

They have three lighted baseball diamonds, two are for 12 and under or women’s softball. The larger diamond has covered seating; what a brilliant idea.

The Mesa Park also has a covered eating area and refreshment center that is probably open for little league baseball games.

Two well maintained tennis courts.

Everything seems to be lighted, even the basketball courts.

Once the economy starts to turn around, there are plenty of lots really close to the mountains.
